White Rock State School forms part of the Cairns District network of schools provided by Education Queensland. It provides a preparatory and primary education for children in the White Rock area.
It was established in 1988 to cater for the rapidly expanding population of Cairns. It is situated in the developing southern corridor of Cairns and services the urban residential areas of Forest Gardens, Mt Sheridan and White Rock itself.
For the first ten years the school experienced rapid growth with the building program and resources barely keeping up. However due to the establishment of another state school in 1998 nearby, the growth has steadied.
The current enrolment is 510 and numbers are showing a steady growth in the lower school.
The school is set in large attractive grounds with an environmental area and well established shade trees. The teaching facilities consist of 5 open plan designed teaching blocks of 4 classrooms, an on-site Prep Unit and a Library Resource Centre. All teaching blocks are air-conditioned.
In 2010 a new well, appointed hall was built under the Federal Government Building the Education Revolution program.
In 2012 the new C&K Kindergarten unit attached to the school opened its doors for the first time.
In 2013 a new modern design demountable building housing 2 classrooms was built at the school.
In 2014 a second new modern design demountable teaching block housing 2 classrooms was added to the school, further attesting to our growth potential.
